Anant Pai is an Indian comic book creator and is the pioneer of Indian comic books. He is most famous for his two comic books- Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle.
- Anant Pai was born in Karakala, Madras on 17 September 1929.
- His Parents were Venkataraya Pai and Susheela Pai. Anant Pai was brought up by his maternal grandfather. He lost his parents at the age of two. Anant Pai was married to Lalita and they were childless.

- He studied in Orient School, Mahim and done his graduation From Bombay University.
- From his early life he was passionate about publishing comic books. His first attempt in publishing comic book was not successful. After his failure, he Joined Times of India’s books division as a junior Executive.
- In 1967 he left the job of Times of India and started publishing Amar Chitra Katha. Amar Chitra Katha was a comic book based on the Indian mythology and Indian folk tales.
- Amar Chitra Katha was a grand success in the history of Indian comics. More than 86 million copies of it were sold.
- The idea of Amar Chitra Katha came to his mind when he saw in a quiz contest kids were answering the questions on Greek mythology easily but were unable to answer the questions on Indian mythology.
- In 1980 he started Tinkle. It also found success in very short time.
- Besides comic books, he has written many books for children on personality development.
- Anant Pai is also called ‘Uncle Pai’ and ‘Walt Disney of India’.
- He won Maharashtra Rajya Hindi Sahitya Academy Award, Dr. T. M. A. Pai Memorial Award, Millennium Konkani Sammelan Award and Priyadarshni Academy Award.
- On 19 February 2011 he was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award — at the First Indian Comic Convention.
- He was died on 24 February 2011 in a massive heart attack.
